Any condo for sale in Pasig won’t be able to protect us from existential threats to humanity. How are we going to survive terrorist attacks, nuclear warfare, catastrophic natural disasters, A.I. takeover, or the (inevitable, IMO) zombie apocalypse that are bound to annihilate humankind in the future? We know we might be exaggerating a bit, yet there are private corporations and civilians who take this doomsday, “sh*t hits the fan” scenario seriously—too seriously, even.
These proactive individuals are called ‘preppers’ that means, according to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, “someone who believes that a war or disaster will happen soon, and who learns skills and collects food and equipment, in order to be ready for it.” To a prepper, disaster preparedness is not enough. Have you ever heard of survival shelters? Well, this is what a post-apocalyptic real estate looks like:
Nike Missile Site Bunker
There are more than 200 missile sites strategically scattered in the USA. These are the remnants of the Cold War that once defended them from the incoming Soviet bombers. If you want to build a fortified fortress, the logical thing to do is construct it on a former military base. This is the clever move of 20th Century Castles, LLC. They bought one of the decommissioned Nike missile sites and turned it to $1.5 million bunker. As said by the Verge, “the residence boasts a kitchen, four bedrooms, two baths, an exercise room, indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and an elevator for lowering the owner’s… automobiles below the surface,” so you can ward of zombies in style. The Deployable Survival Capsule Don’t fancy being in a desolate place like a missile site? You can choose your preferred location and dig a hole to bury this bug-out shelter, the Deployable Survival Capsule developed by 20th Century Castles, LLC, too. It resembles a submarine divided into two sections (36’ and 20’ long) and costs $275, 000. The pod is big enough for six persons. Its has a fresh water tank, sanitation tank/septic system, LPG tank, bathroom & shower, communications center, kitchen, dining area, power generator, fridge/freezer, and bunks, as stated on their site. The survival capsule is fully-equipped and designed to last a 90-day period of isolation. It has built-in biochemical air infiltration, heater and HVAC, perfect for a Noah’s Ark end of days. Speaking of Noah’s Ark… Survival Community Shelters In 1980, Robert Vicino once hoped to build an underground, blast-proof shelter that can house 1,000 individuals and can withstand global cataclysmic events. But it took 28 years before his dream came into reality and in 2008, the Vivos project was born. Currently, they offer three co-owner shelters called Vivos Europa One, Vivos Indiana and Vivos Trine. According to terravivos.com, the Vivos Europa One is invincible to “nuclear blast, a direct airliner crash, biological and chemical agents, massive shock waves, earthquakes, electro-magnetic pulses, flooding and virtually any armed attack.” Dubbed as the modern day “Noah’s Ark”, it can accommodate only 34 high net worth families. On the other hand, the VIvos Indiana is an 80-person nuclear hardened underground complex. The site says it is “less expensive” than Vivos Europa One and designed to last “one year of fully autonomous survival, without needing to return to the surface.” Last is the Vivos Trine, the largest of the three that can contain 150 to 500 people.
The Survival Condo
For those Hunger Games fans out there, do you remember District 13? It has a great likeness to Larry Hall’s Luxury Survival Condo. So, is this the future District 13? Nah, we don’t think so. Keyword: ‘luxury.’ It is quite opposite from the lone district. The structure was built in a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) in Kansas. Each unit costs $1.5 Million to $4.5 Million. Its key features are elevator, theater, generator, wind turbine, indoor shooting range, hydroponic food, aquaculture, rock climbing wall, game arcade, indoor pool & spa, and more. It employs a military grade security and has its own minor surgery center, almost everything that ISN’T district 13. With dwellings like this, gated communities with security guards and highly secured for sale condo in Pasig will be the thing of the past because bunkers with a blast door will become the norm. The post-apocalyptic future seems bright and secure but sadly for billionaires only.
